Our new vicar is Revd Lynn Hellmuth from 13th February 2018. She is responsible for St Laurence Scalby, St Luke Scarborough, St Peter Hackness and St Hilda Ravenscar.

We pray for her as she starts her ministry in the area.

Lynn has sent the following;

Lynn and FloraHello everyone, I`m Lynn Hellmuth (the 2nd part of my last name is pronounced like moth but with a u in the middle), and I`m the soon to be Vicar of Scalby, Scarborough St Luke, Ravenscar and Staintondale, and Hackness w Harwood Dale.

I am currently Vicar of Stoneleigh, which is a suburb on the outskirts of London between Kingston and Espom. I have been here nearly 10 years. Prior to that I was 3 years in a team ministry in Crawley preceded by 3 years as a curate in Twickenham, after ordination in 2002. Before I was ordained, I was a secondary school RE teacher for 3 years, and then became a Home Office civil servant. Highlights there included being Private Secretary to Kenneth Clarke as Home Secretary, and a number of security and counter-terrorism posts, as well as working in Parliament, taking legislation through.

Although most of my working life has been in the South East my first teaching post was in Hornsea, and my father`s family came from Scalby, with my grandfather living in Scalby Rd opposite St Luke`s, and my father being a pupil and later a teacher at what was then Scarborough High School for Boys. I have vivid memories as a child of spending time at Scalby Mills, and meals in The Rosette, so in many ways taking up this post feels like coming home.

I am single, and share my home with a golden labrador puppy, Flora. We both love long walks inland and by the sea so I am looking forward to exploring the wonderful countryside and coast on the doorstep. I also enjoy reading, the theatre and researching my family tree. In terms of Christian spirituality I am linked with the Northumbria Community, which is based near Morpeth – it will be great to be much nearer the Mother House than I am currently.

I have felt a call to Yorkshire over the last year or more and am really looking forward to ministering alongside you in “God`s own country”.  All good wishes Lynn
